- BUILD OUR COMMUNITY
Safe neighborhoods make for great places to raise families, and we've made significant progress in creating a community that will draw new families to Middletown. In 2015 I promised to work to right-size our over-abundance of Section 8 housing and create a safer, healthier community.
SINCE 2016 WE HAVE SEEN A 50% DECREASE IN LOW-INCOME HOUSING VOUCHERS, OUR MOST SERIOUS CRIMES ARE DOWN, AND OVERDOSES ARE DOWN NEARLY HALF.
Future Focus: Supporting needed changes in specific neighborhoods over time will allow us to transform areas of town that are struggling the most and protect those that are sliding. Using a combination of market forces, public forces and private enterprise will help Middletown move toward a brighter future. We must...
Commit to Neighborhood Reinvestment.
- One neighborhood at a time, we pave streets, update street lights, add recreation space, reducing blight and offer incentives to draw new families to Middletown.
Support and Equip Public Safety.
- Continue to support our Police men and women by giving them the safety, tools, equipment and support they need to keep crime and drugs off the streets.
- Build a Fire Department to fit the Middletown of the Future. Our newest Fire Station was built in 1978. I wasn’t even born yet. We’ve changed a lot in the last 41 years, as have health and safety standards. We need to reposition some of these Fire Stations to more appropriately protect our newer and growing residential neighborhoods. Just as importantly, these new stations need to be designed to protect the health of those that protect us.
